{"id":78,"date":"2019-09-14T18:46:08","date_gmt":"2019-09-14T18:46:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thecannycouple.com\/?p=78"},"modified":"2019-09-14T20:13:36","modified_gmt":"2019-09-14T20:13:36","slug":"78","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thecannycouple.com\/index.php\/2019\/09\/14\/78\/","title":{"rendered":"Saving money on gifts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Birthdays, Christmas, Anniversaries, Weddings all have one thing in common besides being special times of the year in a person\u2019s life.\u00a0 They are usually associated with either the act of giving or receiving a gift.\u00a0 If you aren\u2019t careful, buying gifts can hit your budget hard.\u00a0 When you are one person and have to buy birthday and Christmas presents for <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">8 nieces and nephews the costs can get crazy.\u00a0 Making homemade gifts, unless you are really good at it and have had lots of practice, can be just as costly.\u00a0 But if you are a planner and a budgeter, you can get a head of any unforeseen costs.\u00a0 <\/span><br \/>\n<span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:200}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"1\" data-aria-posinset=\"1\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Prepare ahead of time \u2013 you know when most of these costs are going to hit.\u00a0 Plan when you are going to have your biggest hits and work your budget around this.\u00a0 For example, you have a $300 budget for your husband\u2019s birthday.\u00a0 Spread the costs out a few months.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233279&quot;:true,&quot;335559739&quot;:200}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"1\" data-aria-posinset=\"1\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Open sinking funds \u2013 a sinking fund is a great way to help you dedicate a certain amount of money each month that will be used for specific purchases.\u00a0 A Christmas <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">club<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> account is a sinking fund.\u00a0 You put in a certain amount each month so you have enough money to do your shopping at the end of the year.\u00a0 We use sinking funds for just about everything.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233279&quot;:true,&quot;335559739&quot;:200}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"1\" data-aria-posinset=\"2\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Shop after the holidays \u2013 and I am mostly talking about Christmas here.\u00a0 Walmart has all of their Christmas stuff, including their seasonal gifts (fragrance baskets, silly <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">kid\u2019s<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> toys, etc) on sale for 50% off.\u00a0 I get all of my nieces and nephews Christmas and birthday presents for the next year on December 26.\u00a0 I spend $35 for all of it instead of over $70 if I were to buy it later.\u00a0 And they are good gifts.\u00a0 Disney princess, and other name brand items for next to nothing.\u00a0 <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">I can\u2019t make them something that cheap.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233279&quot;:true,&quot;335559739&quot;:200}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"1\" data-aria-posinset=\"3\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Have an \u201cI want\u201d<\/span> <span data-contrast=\"auto\">spreadsheet for you and your spouse \u2013 what this is exactly is a shared spreadsheet that you tell your partner (or whoever) exactly what you want.\u00a0 How does this save money?\u00a0 Well instead of getting those awesome hills you want, you ended up getting pair of house shoes that you will never wear.\u00a0 You will get\/be getting things that are wanted and will be used, not wasting money on things that no one would buy for themselves.\u00a0 Google spreadsheets is a great thing, because you can share them between each other and update whenever you want.\u00a0 We started using this because Aaron thinks that I am hard to buy for.\u00a0 He loves that he can get me exactly what I want, down to the size and color.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233279&quot;:true,&quot;335559739&quot;:200}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Birthdays, Christmas, Anniversaries, Weddings all have one thing in common besides being special times of the year in a person\u2019s life.\u00a0 They are usually associated with either the act of giving or receiving a gift.\u00a0 If you aren\u2019t careful, buying gifts can hit your budget hard.\u00a0 When you are one person and have to buy&hellip;
