I have read hundreds of money saving <\/span>tip<\/span>s and there have been some great ideas on how to save money for basic needs.\u00a0 Our problem is that we don\u2019t have many of these options available to us in the area we live.\u00a0 We are incredibly lucky to live in a very low cost of livin<\/span>g area but there are downsides.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Shopping around f<\/span>or the best deal <\/span>is a great way to save money, but if there is only one company to choose from<\/span> then you are stuck<\/span>.\u00a0 In our little slice of heaven, we have one option for electricity, water,<\/span> phone,<\/span> and a few other amenities.\u00a0 There is only one electrical company for our area.\u00a0 The only other option is solar power and that is an expensive option (one we are planning on taking in a few years, but that is beside the point).\u00a0 When rates are raised, it is either pay up or do without.\u00a0 If we didn\u2019t have electricity, we wouldn\u2019t have water<\/span> as we are on a well<\/span>.\u00a0 <\/span>For me, personally, it is not an option.\u00a0 Our bill is high compared to the options others hav<\/span>e, at least 140 a month.\u00a0 We closely watch our energy use to keep the bill as low as possible.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

A city water hook-up isn\u2019t even an option where we are at the moment.\u00a0 The city is slowing moving up the mountain, but for the time being, we use well water.\u00a0 The plus side to this is there is no water bill.\u00a0 The downside is that if the power goes out, we have no water.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Our area only has one option for phone and internet use.\u00a0 We live in an area where we are unable to <\/span>go without a landline.\u00a0 There is no cell signal where we are.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
