I Spent $34 to Help My Grandma Cook Convenient Meals Without an Oven (New Series)

Saving money, frugal living, and grocery savings — helping my Gram cook $39.28 of Food City deals into convenient no-oven dinners. This is the first video in a new monthly series.

My mom’s passion was cooking, and she gave that gift to my Gram — but now we’re both learning new ways to make it work in her kitchen. My Gram is fiercely independent, still active in her 70s, and she already knows how to cook — she just needs new techniques and tools for her situation now. So each month, I’m using a separate $100 series budget (goal: don’t even spend it) to build her easy, freezer-friendly dinners using just an Instant Pot, a convection oven, and the stovetop — no working oven needed.

This month, chicken was $1.49/lb, crescent rolls were $1.99, a taco kit was $2.49, and Cheerios were $1.99 — all through Food City’s buy-5 sale. Total spent: $39.28, including tax — $34.12 went into the meals themselves, with $5.16 left over in ingredients for next time.

What we made:

• Chicken tacos from a kit — stock with me

• Mexican chicken crescent rolls with veggies

• Extra cheesy chicken crescent rolls with veggies

• Crescent roll chicken sandwiches- with veggies

• Cheerio peanut butter dessert

That $34.12 stretched into 8 full dinners and 25 servings of dessert — enough for Gram to eat, freeze, and stretch for weeks on her own terms, whenever she needs it.

This isn’t about extreme frugal living or giving up flavor — it’s a debt-free living mindset applied to real budget dinner ideas anyone can hack for their own taste or kitchen setup.

New episodes of this series will post as they’re ready — subscribe to follow along.

If you’re looking for crescent roll recipes or a way to stretch a grocery budget without an oven, this one’s for you.
